January 01, 2013 - The newest party on the New Year’s Eve circuit, The Rose Ball was held at The Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Football Stadium after a $42 million renovation. Organizers Camille Key of Charleston After Dark and Boris Van Dyck of IceBox Bar created an “illustrious spectacle” complete with a projected and laser light show by Big Hair Productions and local artist Banks Pappas. Local group The Dubplates and San Francisco-based DJ Ron Reeser supplied the soundtrack, along with additional DJs and musical acts including Mateo, KlipArt and Jake B in rooms along the stadium’s various levels. South African vocalist and producer Circe Electro performed at midnight, as well as violinist Seth Gilliard. In addition, Art Magazine curated an exhibit of local artists and the Charleston International Film Festival was screening previews for this year’s event. A portion of the proceeds benefitted the Tanzanian Education Foundation, a Charleston-based nonprofit that provides funding for elementary education in Africa.
