July 19, 2013 - Lowcountry residents felt the need for speed Thursday night, decking out in their best “Top Gun” regalia for an ’80s-themed party held on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Yorktown. Attendees broke out their best flight suits, bomber jackets, white T-shirts, aviators and dog tags and competed for best dressed. They sipped on a blend of different beer and spirits, snacked on offering from food vendors and enjoyed music by Super Deluxe and a DJ as they took in the sights of the Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. A special fashion show featuring retro flight deck crew bathing suits by Las Olas was a highlight. Proceeds from the 21-and-over event benefitted Camp Happy Days, a nonprofit that helps kids with cancer and their families.
