September 13, 2013 In May, Charleston area firefighters duked it out on stage for a spot in the 2014 Charleston Firefighter Calendar to benefit the Charleston Animal Society. On Thursday, the resulting calendar was unveiled at the Woolfe Street Playhouse. The Firefighter Calendar Debut Party kicked off with a VIP reception, but it was after that hour that things really started to heat up. Comedian Travis Howze served as emcee during the unveiling of the calendar, which included a runway show, a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot, a chance for attendees to get photos with the models and get calendars signed, and more. But it was an auction that really won the crowd over. The 21-and-over audience dug deep into their pocketbooks for a chance to go on a dream date with one of the 13 firefighters, a few of whom offered themselves up to help raise funds for the Charleston Animal Society. All proceeds from the party and calendar sales went to Toby’s Fund, the Animal Society’s medical fund that treats injured, abused and abandoned animals.
