September 21, 2013 Folly Beach is turning 40, and they used their final Moonlight Mixer to help kick off their three-day 40 Years of Folly celebration. Put on by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, the event was held at the Folly Beach Fishing Pier and featured DJ Jim Bowers, who helped set the mood and get folks’ feet moving. Other events that were part of the celebration on Friday included a showing of the 25th anniversary video; appearances by former mayors Lavern James, Richard Beck, Bob Linville, Vernon Knox and Carl Beckmann, Jr., and current mayor Tim Goodwin, who spoke about how Folly has evolved over the years; and a special ferris wheel set up for the weekend.
