September 28, 2013 The 16th annual Lowcountry Heart Walk, held Saturday morning at Liberty Square in downtown Charleston, is the American Heart Association's premiere event for raising funds to save lives from the country's No. 1 and No. 4 killers, heart disease and stroke, respectively. Groups and individuals gathered together in the square to participate in a yoga warm-up, survivors’ reception and watch the opening ceremonies before heading out on the 3-mile walk. The event, while free, was all about raising funds while also promoting physical activity and heart-healthy living; last year, about 5,200 people raised $650,000. This year’s goal was $775,000.
