October 08, 2013 Locals celebrated the end of the world’s largest beer festival on Sunday with the 10th annual Charleston Oktoberfest on Daniel Island. Blackbaud Stadium transformed into a Bavarian beer hall for the day, complete with bratwurst, knockwurst and oompah bands, to celebrate the close of the 16-day German event. Attendees broke out their lederhosen and dirndls to enjoy a day full of German fun. With a wide selection of German beers and a variety of food options, folks sipped and stuffed themselves as they enjoyed live music by the Roger Gootman Sauerkraut Band and authentic German dancing led by the Edelweiss Dancers. Kid’s enjoyed a number of events geared toward them, including mini-soccer games on the stadium field, a Mountain Slide, an inflatable game and a jump castle. A highlight of the day was the 64-team corn hole tournament that served as entertainment and a benefit for Meals on Wheels. A portion of the proceeds from Oktoberfest went to Debi’s Kids.
