October 20, 2013 Daniel Island went country over the weekend as the boys from the Zac Brown Band took over Blackbaud Stadium for its third annual Southern Ground Music & Food Festival. Boasting a musical lineup that included a mix of classic country, modern alt-rock, Americana, pop, soul and bluegrass, the two-day festival appealed to a wide audience. Saturday’s line-up included performances by Brothers Road, the AJ Ghent Band, Coy Bowles and The Fellowship, John Driskell Hopkins & Balsam Range, Dugas, The Wood Brothers, Frank Olivier, Holly Williams, Dawes, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Fitz and the Tantrums, Natalie Maines and the Zac Brown Band with special sit-in performances by John Bell and Clare Bowen. As in the past, there was plenty of top-notch Southern-style cuisine both days of the festival. Southern Ground executive chef Rusty Hamlin welcomed chefs Craig Deihl, RJ Cooper, Kelly Liken and Claire Chapman alongside beer sommelier Gary Valentine at the food stations and VIP lounge areas.
