June 06, 2014 Spoleto SCENE, a group of Spoleto Festival USA patrons in their 20s and 30s, continued celebrating the 2014 Spoleto season on Thursday with a curtain call after party for Dorrance Dance. Held at Redux, the event featured Cathead Vodka cocktails, Palmetto Brewing Company beers and wine from Wine Awesomeness while Hamby Catering and Sugar Bakeshop provided snacks. Dorrance Dance, a tap troupe founded and directed by Michelle Dorrance, made their Spoleto debut Thursday night with the first of two programs they’re putting on this year. Accompanied by vocalist Aaron Marcellus and a live band, Delta to Dusk explores a range of musical styles from blues to bluegrass to pop and rock through tap dance. Their second production, SOUNDspace, focuses on the embodiment of music made by movement: “This isn’t tap to music, this is tap as music” (The New York Times), and will be put on through Sunday.
