August 12, 2014 Hootie & the Blowfish returned to Daniel Island this weekend for their 12th annual Homegrown Weekend concert series, a two-day event that was all about fun and philanthropy, with the underprivileged children of the Charleston County School District benefiting. After celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their debut album, “Cracked Rear View,” in July, the band performed favorites such as “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry” and “Only Wanna Be with You,” taking the stage after Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ and South Carolina’s own Edwin McCain. The show came after the free Family Day event, which featured numerous children’s activities as well as live music from Chris Holly, McKenna Andrews, Susto, Kylie Odetta, Wayne Graham and “American Idol” finalist Elise Testone. Also during the Family Day, students were provided with haircuts, dental exams, a book bag full of school supplies and more.
