August 25, 2014 Folks were invited out to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens on Sunday to “celebrate Jamaica Day in the Carolinas” at the inaugural South Carolina Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival. Put on by Magnolia Plantation and the Healthy Lifestyle Network, the event offered folks a taste of Caribbean food, Reggae wines, and Caribbean arts and crafts. Attendees were able to catch a showing of Diana Ogilvie’s film “The Jamaican Jerk Tour,” participate in a domino tournament, enjoy a youth showcase, check out the offerings from a jerk cook-off, test their mettle during a pepper eating contest and more. Music and entertainment was provided throughout the day, including a performance by The Dubplates. Proceeds from the event went to the Healthy Lifestyle Network, a nonprofit formed to teach self-management skills to adults and children “to change lifestyle and improvement health outcomes.”
