Bridge Run board to cap number of entries to 40K
The Cooper River Bridge Run’s board of directors met today for the first time since Saturday’s hour-delayed race to determine the causes and to hammer out a game plan to address the problem next year.
The board did not allow the media in the meeting, which lasted about 70 minutes, but chairman Ken Ayoub talked about key points after it adjourned.
He reiterated that the delay started with an inefficient bus loading system combined with a higher than expected number of people showing up at 6 a.m. Saturday.
More people showed, the board speculated, because of forecasts for storms later that morning.
Ultimately, the board decided to cap the race at 40,000 - as opposed to 43,000 this year - and to hire a logistics expert to recommend a plan.
Ayoub again spoke of the likelihood of adding satellite shuttle locations in the North area.
The board will meet for a retreat in June, as it typically does, to start working on details of the new plan.
