There are many things to celebrate this weekend

I don’t know about you, but I am loving this weather. It’s not too hot, not too cold; the perfect time to be outside, especially with my four-legged furball.

Pet Fest
If you’re a pet lover like myself, this is the perfect weekend to show our furbabies we care, not that we don’t do it every day.

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission is hosting this festival for pets (they must be leashed), their owners and those in search of a pet 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Palmetto Islands County Park, 444 Needlerush Parkway in Mount Pleasant.

Highlights include exhibits, demonstrations, experts, entertainment, contests and more. Children’s activities include jump castles and slides, and food, beverages and beer will be for sale.

And speaking of dogs ...

Recovery Room, 685 King St., will round out its four-year celebration with a dog parade at 8 p.m. Sunday

Before the pooches take their stroll, participate in field day events including an egg toss, potato sack race, half-court shot, hula hooping and more.

Battery’s 20th season
If you’re looking for a celebration of another sort, The Charleston Battery kicks off its 20th season Saturday night with a game versus its oldest rival, the Richmond Kickers. Gates at Blackbaud Stadium, 1990 Daniel Island Drive, open at 6 p.m. Get $2 drafts in the Battery Beer Gardens until kickoff at 7:30 p.m. A fireworks show will round out the night.

Earth Day events
There’s still more celebrating going on at Earth Day festivities all around the area.

Charleston County: 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday at Riverfront Park on the former Charleston Naval Base in North Charleston. Events include an art contest, science projects and information about composting, wildlife, energy and water conservation. Johns and Walmalaw islands: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Coordinated by Lowcountry Local First as part of Eat Local Month, visit local farms on the islands by car or bike. Meet the farmers, tour their property and learn about each farm’s process. And enjoy some food truck fare and local eateries along the way. Fresh produce will be for sale. Medical University of South Carolina: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Horseshoe Park, 171 Ashley Ave. Celebrate with live music, local food, eco-crafts. plants and more. Kiawah Island: Starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Night Heron Park. Enjoy eco-friendly vendors, artists and family crafts. Live entertainment will be provided by Jim Sawgrass and the South Carolina Birds of Prey. Contests and games held. Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase.
