Southern Italian
’Cesca, Charleston’s new southern regional Italian restaurant, will open its doors today at 5 Faber St. in the location of the former Buccaneer.
’Cesca is owned and operated by restaurateur Anthony Mazzola. The executive chef is Jason Colon, who previously was with Miel at the Intercontinental Hotel and Market by Jean-Georges.
’Cesca is named after Mazzola’s grandmother Francesca.
’Cesca will be open daily for lunch 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and dinner 5-11 p.m. Reservations can be made via OpenTable, www.opentable.com/cesca-charleston, or by calling 718-2580.
Food & Wine kudos
Kudos to McCrady’s Restaurant, which was recognized in Food & Wine magazine’s June issue for its “hassle-free reservation policy.” In the words of F&W: “A world-class spot where getting a reservation isn’t a struggle.”
And a shout out to Butcher & Bee, where Michael Shemtov and Stuart Tracy’s vegetarian eggplant sandwich called the sabich was honored in the piece “Sandwich Chefs: Our New Heroes.”
Jimmy John’s
Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches has opened a new location at 966 Houston Northcutt Blvd., Mount Pleasant.
Tonya McGue, a resident of the Isle of Palms, is the owner. The Mount Pleasant location offers a drive-thru, and delivery and catering services. Hours are 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
This makes the third Jimmy John’s in the Charleston area. The other two are downtown and at the Tanger Outlets.
Folly landmark
They’ve reopened — again. Check out the Sandbar, 88 Sandbar Lane, Folly Beach, for breakfast and lunch daily, with plans for dinner service on the way.
Dinner with a view
Slightly North of Broad, 192 East Bay St., is offering a Chef’s Table menu on Sundays.
With only six seats available, the Chef’s Table overlooks the kitchen and gives guests a chance to experience the range of the culinary team’s repertoire and kitchen skills, creative and technical.
Each week there will be a different menu accompanied by descriptions of the courses from the culinary team, for a deeper look and understanding of the tasty fare.
The Chef’s Table menu will be offered every Sunday evening with two times for dinner: one seating at 5:30 p.m. and a second seating at 8 p.m. The prix-fixe dinner is $40 or $55 with wine pairings. Tax and gratuity are not included.

A “Fairytale Breakfast” will take place 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Creative Spark Center for the Arts, 757 Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant.

Jack gives back
Jack Hurley, owner of Jack’s Cosmic Dogs, is on the literacy trail.
Hurley is teaming up with Begin With Books, a preschool literacy program based on Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
“Take a Book, Give a Book” is a lending library aimed at encouraging family literacy. Each of the three Jack’s Cosmic Dog locations, West Ashley, Folly Beach and Mount Pleasant, will have a bookcase full of children’s books. Any child may take one book home to read. They are encouraged to return the book when they are done reading it or to bring in another book to share.

New ownership
Starfish Grille at 520 Folly Road, James Island, has re-opened with new owners, a new menu and new beer and wine selections.
Justin and Jamie Parfrey took over from the Gionis family in late May. Lunch service, which began last week, starts at 11 a.m.; dinner is served nightly starting at 5 p.m.

Vegan dinner
Eli’s Table will be the location of a vegan dinner, bringing together chefs Mickey Brennan, Brett McKee and Sean Park.
The dinner will take place 5-8 p.m. June 24; reservations are required and can be made by calling 405-5115.
Eli’s Table is at 129 Meeting St. The cost is $55.
