File/Wade Spees/staff: The Run and Walk for the Yorktown 5K will end with participants heading down the pier leading to the aircraft carrier.
Historically, November is the busiest month for runners in Charleston, rivaled only by March, and this has been the busiest weekend.
Despite the fact that the Folly Beach 10 Miler isn’t being held for the first time in five years, the area is hosting four races in different locations on this Veterans Day weekend. And the headliner features a salute to veterans.
The second annual Run and Walk for the Yorktown 5K will start at 8 a.m. Saturday at Patriots Point with the national anthem sung by past “American Idol” contestant and Air Force Capt. Lyndsey Goodman, a flyover and aerial display of an AT-6 Texan Warbird plane, and a starting blast from a World War II-era Howitzer.
The race begins behind the Yorktown parking lot, goes out the back entrance, turns down Patriots Point Boulevard, continuing to Harry Hallman Boulevard, down into Waterfront Park to the turnaround, then returns on the same route, with the finish line on the pier running toward the Yorktown.
The race will conclude with a party on the ship with a band, followed by the awards ceremony. The fee is $30. All proceeds benefit education programs on the aircraft carrier Yorktown. www.runfortheyorktown.com
Old Village 5K
About a 5K away, the 13th annual Old Village Harbor 5K will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, starting and ending at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant.
The event is stroller- and dog-friendly, though those with strollers are asked to start at the back of the pack.

Teachers’ Supply 5K
The third of three 5Ks on Saturday comes at 9 a.m. at Hampton Park with the Teacher’s Supply Closet Feet First Run for Success. Kids events start at 10 a.m.
Teachers’ Supply Closet serves 34 Title 1 schools in the tri-county area and provides teachers with free school supplies for the students in their classrooms.
Teachers’ Supply Closet Board member Carol Viering said the organization has provided teachers with more than $900,000 worth of supplies in more than five years.
The organization operates a “store” where teachers can “shop” twice each year for the supplies they need. It is at 1401 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Suite 11. www.teacherssupplycloset.org
Final ECOrun of 2012
And finally, the final Capers Island ECOrun, a 10K and 5K beach run and walk, of 2012 will be at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. A ferry to the bridgeless barrier island departs from Isle of Palms Marina at 11 a.m. The ferry returns around 1 p.m. The marina parking fee is $3.
