Charleston Classic Basketball Tournament

A three-day invitational college basketball season-opening tournament, this fifth annual event will feature eight NCAA men’s teams playing 12 games in a bid for the championship title and trophy. Each team will play three games in three days in this ESPN-owned and operated event. Participating teams include host team College of Charleston, Auburn University, Baylor University, Boston College, the University of Colorado, the University of Dayton, Murray State University and St. John’s University.

When: Thursday, Friday and Sunday

Where: College of Charleston’s TD Arena, 301 Meeting St.

Price: Tickets begin at $20 for 2-game sessions.

Miss South Carolina USA & Miss South Carolina Teen USA

Young women from across the state will vie for the opportunity to compete in the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. The ladies will compete in swimsuit, evening gown and interview portions, with the winners being crowned during the finals competition on Saturday.

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday (preliminaries) and Saturday (finals)

Band Together for ALS

This all-day music festival is being put on with the mission of raise awareness and money for the South Carolina ALS Association. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. With performances by Mark Bryan of Hootie & the Blowfish, Acousticmuffin, The Ryan Bonner Band, The Graham Whorley Band, Johnny Mac BootyRanch and many more, this event promises to be a good time for a good cause.

When: 11 a.m. Saturday

Celebrity Chili Cook-Off and Oyster Roast

The 13th annual chili cook-off put on by the Charleston Animal Society is all about friendly competition. Local celebrities and other notables will do all they can to win for the coveted champion robe. Taste the chili, dig into endless oysters, enjoy live music, sip on beer from Palmetto Brewery and check out the adoptable animals that will be on-site. The family-friendly event will also have a kids fun zone.

When: 1-5 p.m. Saturday

Local artists from different trades will take over the Old City Jail, filling it with musicians, dancers, comedians, actors, artists, sculptors and more. The fourth installment of this local arts festival will include musical performances by Southwood Duo, Dangermuffin, Rachael Kate and Crowfield; dance performances will be put on by The Charleston Dance Alliance. Artists and vendors will be selling their work, and local food trucks and alcohol will be on-site for purchase.

When: 4-11 p.m. Saturday
