Celebrity Chili Cook-Off and Oyster Roast
The 13th annual chili cook-off put on by the Charleston Animal Society is all about friendly competition. Local celebrities and other notables will do all they can to win the coveted champion robe. Taste the chili, dig into endless oysters, enjoy live music, sip on beer from Palmetto Brewery and check out the adoptable animals that will be on-site. The family-friendly event will also have a kids fun zone.
When: 1-5 p.m. Saturday

Charleston Classic Basketball Tournament
A three-day invitational college basketball season-opening tournament, this fifth annual event will feature eight NCAA men’s teams playing 12 games in a bid for the championship title and trophy. Each team will play three games in three days in this ESPN-owned and operated event. Participating teams include host team College of Charleston, Auburn University, Baylor University, Boston College, the University of Colorado, the University of Dayton, Murray State University and St. John’s University.

Wild at Wingswood
This third annual fundraiser for The Center for Birds of Prey will feature live music by Minimum Wage, a Lowcountry buffet, beer and wine, flight demonstrations, kid’s activities and more. All proceeds from the picnic will benefit Birds of Prey.

Band Together for ALS
This all-day music festival is being put on with the mission of raise awareness and money for the South Carolina ALS Association. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. With performances by Mark Bryan of Hootie & the Blowfish, Acousticmuffin, The Ryan Bonner Band, The Graham Whorley Band, Johnny Mac Booty Ranch and many more, this event promises to be a good time for a good cause.

Miss South Carolina USA & Miss South Carolina Teen USA
Young women from across the state will vie for the opportunity to compete in the national pageants. The ladies will compete in swimsuit, evening gown and interview portions, with the winners being crowned during the finals competition.

CNN Circle of Light Gala
This Evening in Paris-themed gala benefiting Darkness to Light will feature an evening of fine dining, entertainment, an auction and an after-party. Raising awareness and funds to protect children from sexual abuse, the event will include dinner prepared by 14 of Charleston’s finest chefs and a live auction featuring trips and luxury merchandise. During the event, figure skater Scott Hamilton will be presented with the organization’s Voice of Courage Award.

Charleston Jazz Jam
The Charleston Jazz Club will hold its third annual Jazz Jam, a celebration of jazz in the Lowcountry. The event will feature debut appearances by Pearl-authorized drummer Gino Castillo and Brazilian guitarist Duda Lucena. The afternoon promises an outstanding array of talent, with vocalists Starr Acheson and Big George Collier, Joe Clark, saxophonist George Kenney and guitarist David Archer set to appear, among others. Concessions will be available.
