Mardi Gras

The Glass Onion, 1219 Savannah Highway, will ring in Mardi Gras on Tuesday.

The West Ashley restaurant will honor its Louisiana connection with beads, king cake and the usual array of New Orleans-inspired culinary delights, such as po’ boys, gumbo and crawfish etouffee.

Those in costume will receive a slice of cake on the house.

The Glass Onion also will honor its own tradition of serving fried chicken during Tuesday dinner service (5-9 p.m.). However, in keeping with Mardi Gras, they will serve the fried chicken with red beans and rice. As usual, the fried chicken will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis unless reservations are made with the Glass Onion by 3 p.m. Monday.

Stars Restaurant Rooftop Bar & Grill Room is offering Tap Wine Tuesdays, where guests can sample wines through the Stars Vintap System.

Guests can sample 16 wines on tap. They will be priced half-off 4-7 p.m.

To complement the wines, Stars will offer $3 mini-burgers, mini-BLTs and Bull’s Bay oysters 5-7 p.m. This menu is available only at the downstairs bar and cocktail area.

Speedy service

In an effort to accommodate lunch guests on a tight schedule, Langdon’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, 778 S. Shelmore Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, has created a new program called “Lunch on the Fly.”

Geared toward busy professionals looking for a high-quality lunch at a great price, “Lunch on the Fly” is available 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays and includes soup or salad, entree and drink for $12.

“Lunch on the Fly” at Langdon’s will feature an array of California-Mediterranean dishes from chef Patrick Owens’ award-winning kitchen. Dishes will change daily.

New Circa 1886 menu

Chef Marc Collins at Circa 1886 has unveiled a new dinner menu that features the flavors of winter combined with the new, fresh flavors of spring.

Pastry chef Scott Lovorn also has created an array of sweet treats for the new menu.

Menu items are available a la carte and a chef’s five-course tasting menu is available for $75, or $110 with wine pairings.

New at Med Bistro

Promotion at Cypress

Executive chef Craig Deihl and the Hospitality Management Group Inc. have announced Bob Cook’s promotion to chef de cuisine at Cypress.

Cook moved from Michigan to Charleston in 2007 to join Cypress, where he has since showcased his butchering skills.

Cook’s passion lies in South Asian, Korean and Thai cuisines, and he has a self-professed love for anything fermented and bubbly, such as sauerkraut and kimchee.

New cafe

Persimmon Cafe is a new walk-up counter-service cafe at 226 Calhoun St. inside the College Laundry, between the Medical University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston. Valentine’s events

The Glass Onion, 1219 Savannah Highway, will offer a tasting menu to celebrate Valentine’s 6-10 p.m. Feb. 14. The West Ashley restaurant will be open for reservations only and will have live jazz as a backdrop to the feast. The three-course dinner will feature a bit of Italy, such as local beef carpaccio, porchetta and almond panna cotta. There also will be an optional wine pairing of sustainable Italian wines. The dinner will cost $40 per guest. The wine pairing can be purchased for an additional $20. The owners encourage those interested to reserve their spots early, as there will be limited seating. Ted’s Butcherblock, 334 East Bay St., is offering an option for Valentine’s Day dinner this year: a gourmet four-course meal featuring quality meat and seafood selections. The four-course menu is priced per person based on three entree selections. The meal also includes a choice of two special house-made desserts and can be supplemented with an optional caviar course. Featured wine pairings are suggested for each entree and the caviar course, ranging $16-$25 a bottle.
