Light it up
Firefly Distillery on Wadmalaw Island has added offerings to its lineup: Firefly Moonshine.
Between 41.1 and 100.7 proof, 20.55 percent and 50.35 percent alcohol by volume, Firefly Moonshine is produced in six flavors: White Lightning, Apple Pie, Caramel, Cherry, Strawberry and Peach.
“When we first started making the Firefly Moonshine, we kept it to ourselves. It was a ‘distillery secret’ that only a few people knew about,” said Scott Newitt, a co-founder of the distillery along with Jim Irvin. “But it tasted so good our ‘Firefly insiders’ kept asking for it. So we decided it was time to share the good stuff and make it available across the U.S.”
Firefly Moonshine sales kicked off at the distillery tasting room in mid-February and was introduced statewide later in the month. It is on its way to licensed liquor distributors, retailers, bars and restaurants nationwide.

Palma and pinot
Pinot and seafood will reign supreme at High Cotton’s wine dinner featuring wines from Anne Amie Vineyards.
At 6:30 p.m. April 4, executive chef Joe Palma will create a five-course menu featuring seafood dishes.

Cruising for a brewskie
Palmetto Breeze has launched its schedule of beers, breezes and cruises:
April 4: Westbrook Brewing
May 2: Stone Brewing Co.
June 6: SweetWater Brewing Co.

Aug. 1: Palmetto Brewery
Sept. 5: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
The cruises begin at 6 p.m., with “Meet the Brewers” at 7 p.m. Beer and food pairings will be served at Lighthouse on the Creek on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. Spicing it up
Charleston Tea Plantation has introduced two new tea flavors to its American Classic tea selections: Cinnamon Spice and Carolina Mint.
American Classic tea is made from tea grown locally at the Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island and is Certified S.C. Grown. It’s the only tea grown in America. Charleston Tea Plantation is at 6617 Maybank Highway on Wadmalaw Island.
Tacos going to Dogs
The RiverDogs will transform the former Nacho House to a Taco House called Wacko Taco.
Because of its popularity, the baseball club will continue to offer the well-known Kitchen Sink Nachos, which includes everything in the concession stand (but the kitchen sink).
The taco menu will be expanded to include a pulled pork taco featuring locally produced Sticky Fingers pulled pork.
Beer Shakes also make its debut this year and will be available in three flavors: Palmetto Espresso Porter Chocolate (from a local brewery), Guinness Caramel and Sweetwater 420 Strawberry.
Other menu items expected to hit it out of the park are a peanut butter and jalapeno jelly bacon burger and a variety of pork rinds.
Introduced last year to a rousing success was the Sausage World stand, which will continue to offer the alligator, brat and duck sausages. In addition, a chicken and apple-flavored sausage has been added.

Multiplication of loaves
Five Loaves Cafe has opened at 1055 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Suite 50, in the Crickentree Village Center in Mount Pleasant. This is a move within the same center; now they are in the improved and remodeled former Village Tavern space. Look for the bright yellow sails. Call 849-1043.
Pub in Summerville
Caleb Taylor opened the Homegrown Brewhouse at 117 S. Main St., Summerville. On the menu: 40 taps, local beers, beer floats and desserts made with beer.
Clusters packing in
Pearlz Oyster Bar at 9 Magnolia Ave. in West Ashley will hold its last oyster roast of the season 2-5 p.m. April 7. The cost is $12 for all-you-can-eat oysters. They will offer live music by Thomas Champagne and special prices on drinks. Call 573-2277.
Scratching the surface
The former Abe’s Oyster House on Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant has new owners who plan to convert this house of bivalves into a cooking emporium called Scratch.
On the menu: an eclectic assortment of global dining options, scratch-made tortillas, breakfast, lunch, a beer garden bar and outdoor patio. Zach Bedell and chef Mat Jones plan to be open for the summer season.
