In response to the tragedy at the Boston Marathon, area bake shop Cupcake has launched a special promotion to benefit those affected.
All proceeds from Boston Cream cupcake sales will go directly to the One Fund Boston organization.
Created in a joint-effort by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, the One Fund Boston organization is raising money to help families most affected by the tragic events that unfolded during the marathon on April 15.
The Boston Cream cupcake is made with a vanilla cake base and is filled with vanilla cream, topped with chocolate icing and drizzled with ganache. These special cupcakes are available daily at all locations: Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Columbia and Greenville until Saturday.

Ronnie Boals honored
On April 18, the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association honored restaurateur Ronnie Boals with a Lifetime Achievement Award during a ceremony that celebrated his more than 50 years in the Charleston restaurant industry.
In addition to presenting Boals with the award, the CRA donated a $1,500 scholarship to the Culinary Institute of Charleston in his name.
During Boals’ years in the industry, he owned and operated 10 restaurants throughout the area, including Ronnie’s and RB’s on Shem Creek.
CRA President Steve Carroll, and Executive Director Kathy Britzius presented the award.
Art with a mimosa side
The Glass Onion, 1219 Savannah Highway, will celebrate local artist Jenny Brown on Saturday.
The West Ashley restaurant will exhibit Brown’s Lowcountry-inspired art during Saturday’s brunch service from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Glass Onion will be open for regular brunch hours 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and will host the exhibit in its side yard. A complimentary mimosa will accompany the purchase of any painting.

The Charleston Culinary Tours’ Charleston Chefs Showdown will take place 6:30-9:30 p.m. May 9 at the Maritime Center in a North vs. South contest.
South of Calhoun chefs Ross Webb of Leaf Cafe and Steven Ollard of Amen Street will be pitted against North of Calhoun chefs Trey Stabler of Five Loaves Cafe and Shay MacDonald of HoM.
As these competitors go head to head in a series of cook-offs to determine who will be named champion, guests will be able to watch the live competition and view the judging panel in action.
Additionally, spectators will be able to enjoy a variety of Charleston delicacies offered by sponsoring restaurants including Southend Brewery and Smokehouse, Leaf, Amen Street, Sweet CeCe’s, Kaminsky’s, Stars, HoM, Sugar Bakeshop, Lowcountry Bistro, Five Loaves Cafe and The Macintosh, all while enjoying music by The Bushels.

Local and learning
Try lunch at 24 North Market, the student-run restaurant at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Charleston, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta.
Students in their final quarters in the culinary programs handle both kitchen duties and front of house hospitality under supervison of the faculty.
The three-course lunch menu features entrees such as oolong-marinated striped bass with braised bok choy in a citrus-soy demi glace. There are appetizers including soba noodle salad in rice vinegar with cilantro, julienned vegetables and peanuts. Desserts complement the other two courses and feature items such as green tea mousse cake.
24 North Market is open for lunch 11 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The three-course lunch is $12, including tax and beverage.
