Charleston Dragon Boat Festival
While registration has closed for the sixth annual Charleston Dragon Boat Festival, folks are invited out to stand on the banks of the Ashley River and cheer on the participants. While a fierce competition, the event is held in good fun with the purpose of celebrating cancer survivors. Enjoy the creative costumes, colorful tents and the competition, and don’t forget to pack a picnic and bring your chairs.

The folks who brought bowling back to the Charleston peninsula are throwing a festival this weekend touting “three days of music, six bands, a whole lot of awesome.” The event will kick off Friday with Atlas Road Crew and The Tarlatans. Saturday brings a Kentucky Derby Party, complete with mint juleps, fried chicken and bourbon, as well as music by Junkyard Angel, Dash Rip Rock and Guilt Ridden Troubadour. Sunday is the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, featuring specials on tequila, margaritas and Dos Equis and live music by Bio Ritmo.

McDonald’s Choir Showcase
Created to focus attention on the expression of faith through music and song, the sixth annual McDonald’s Choir Showcase will feature some of the area’s most talented gospel choirs, praise and worship teams, and contemporary Christian groups as well as performances by national recording artists. Headliners include Grammy and NAACP Image Award nominee and Dove Award-winning vocalist Tamela Mann and Grammy Award nominee Sheri Jones-Moffett. Nationally syndicated gospel radio show Rick Joyner and former news anchor and McDonald’s Choir Showcase co-producer Tia Brewer-Footman will host.

Enjoy a fun-filled rodeo weekend in Walterboro. Check out the two-day International Professional Rodeo Association event, which will feature bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing, team roping and bull riding. Attendees also may enjoy The Rawhide and Dusty Show, which features target work with a bullwhip, trick roping and horse Dusty performing tricks for the crowd. This event will include vendor booths, food and drinks, fun for the kids and more.

All-Americana Crawfish Boil
Home Team BBQ will host the fifth annual All-Americana Crawfish Boil, a day dedicated to mudbugs and music. Dig in to plates of crawfish while they last, and of course barbecue will be on the menu. The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department is celebrating spring with its annual Spring Carnival. The family-friendly event will have tons of entertainment for children of all ages, including a jump castle, face painters, pony rides and crafts.
