Paula Abdul, a singer-songwriter and dancer-choreographer, has announced the launch of her national cheer and dance championship, IGNITE! Spark the Moment, which will make its way to the North Charleston Convention Center from Feb. 28-March 2.
The aim of the competition is to “provide participants the exclusive and unique chance to compete for national recognition through a highly competitive atmosphere, with ‘Five Star’ judges and top scoring cash awards.”
Abdul, who has long had a passion for dance and cheerleading, was once a Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader, heading up the choreography only a few months after joining the team.
“Cheerleading as a sport keeps evolving into higher levels of technique, skill and true athleticism. When you combine the cutting-edge stunts and gymnastics of cheerleading with the technique and elegant fluidity of dance, these athletes become the total package. I attribute my career success to the fusion of cheerleading and dance,” says Abdul.
In addition to North Charleston, IGNITE! will take place in two additional cities, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence on Jan. 3-5 and the Shreveport Convention Center in Louisiana on March 21-23.
Registration for the championship is now open. Information and registration forms can be found at www.paulaabdulignite.com or by calling 1-855-402-4337.
