Cork Neighborhood Bistro’s new executive chef, Heather Edwards, is making her debut with an unconventional, first-of-its-kind moonshine pairing dinner.
Edwards is from the mountains of North Carolina, where moonshine is engrained in the fabric of many locals.
In the tradition of Popcorn Sutton, she has partnered with Firefly Distillery and its Moonshine line. This dinner takes place tonight and includes four courses and moonshine cocktails.
There will be two seatings, at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Live bluegrass music by the Blue Stone Ramblers will take place outside along with a cocktail hour prior to each event.
The cost is $65, with 10 percent of the total proceeds going to benefit the Charleston Jaycee’s Camp Hope.

Slow Food stirs the pot
Slow Food Charleston will hold its summer potluck today at Coast Brewing Co., 1250 N. 2nd St. in North Charleston, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Coast Brewing is a small, family owned craft brewery and will offer tours and tastings. There is a fee for the tastings.
Admission to the potluck is free and is open to all Slow Food members and those interested in becoming members. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share and folding chairs.

Taking it to the bars
Charleston Culinary Tours has now added a 1½ hour Mixology Tour.
Participants will be introduced to three of Charleston’s experienced mixologists, sample a specialty cocktail at each location, and learn the art and the craft of the perfect cocktail construction.
This tour is limited to 14 guests. The cost is $40 and tickets can be purchased at Etix.com.

A royal summer feast
82 Queen has launched a new Summer Dinner Series.
Each dinner will showcase different liquors or local breweries along with 82 Queen’s Lowcountry cuisine.
The first of the dinner series, the Bourbon Dinner, will take place June 28. The dinner will feature Jim Beam’s diverse line of bourbons such as Basil Hayden’s and Knob Creek.
Chef Steven Lusby has created a menu that not only compliments the bourbons but infuses the elixirs into the dishes.

Future dinners include a Carolina Brewery Dinner on July 12 and a Firefly Moonshine and Palmetto Brewery Dinner on Aug. 16. Each of these events will be $59.

Now through July 14, Mellow Mushroom will offer the flavors of Thailand reflected in its new menu of munchies, salads, sandwiches, desserts and paired beverages called High on Thai.

On June 28 at 6:30 p.m., the folks at St. Johns Madden Hall will host a celebration of the Italian table. They are at 28 Sumter Ave. in Summerville.
On the menu: salad, bread, pasta, meatballs and sausage with cannoli for dessert.
The brunch bunch
Kitchen 208 is already so popular with the “breakfast club” that they are now offering Sunday brunch from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Kitchen 208 is at 208 King St.
Verde, the quick-and-easy salad concept eatery, opened a second location at 730 Coleman Blvd. in the Brookgreen Shopping Center in Mount Pleasant.
Known for its create-your-own salad bar offering more than 45 different ingredients, the new location will feature the same signature ingredients, salads, wraps and homemade dressings as downtown Charleston.
Verde will maintain its same business hours at both locations, offering lunch and dinner service from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.

J.Paul’z Mount Pleasant will celebrate its one-year anniversary June 29.
