Repticon

Featuring all things scaly, slimy, creepy and crawly, Repticon is a reptile event featuring vendors offering pets, supplies, feeders, cages and merchandise. The International Carolina Expo for Reptile & Amphibian Keepers plays host to enthusiasts interested in buying and/or learning about reptiles. Featuring animals on display, including venomous reptiles, there also will be numerous seminars, displays, raffles and more. This event, which first debuted in the Holy City in 2004, has moved to a new location this year, the Omar Shrine Auditorium, so head out for two days of exotic animal adventures.

Edisto Beach Music & Shag Fest

As we mentioned last week, it should come as no surprise that there are tons of events and clubs dedicated to the shag, as it is South Carolina's state dance. This week proves no different as the Dockside Bar and Grill, the town of Edisto Beach and the Edisto Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the Edisto Beach Music & Shag Fest. Featuring two days of arts and craft vendors, food vendors, shag exhibitions, live music and more, shag fans of all ages will find something to enjoy. Friday night will feature a professional shag competition, with a nonprofessional shag competition set for Saturday. In between, enjoy live music from the East Coast Party Band, The Headliners, Steve Craig and The Out of Towners Band, with DJs Pat Patterson and Jim Bowers also spinning.

Locally Grown on the Green

Presented by the South Carolina Music Guide and hosted by Awendaw Green, eight South Carolina bands will be featured in an all-day music showcase. Featuring performances by The Dunder Chiefs, The Mary Chasers, Danielle Howle, Shannon Vogt, Tyler Boone, The Black Iron Gathering, The Tarlatans and The Dubious Battles, it promises to be a laid-back event with great music. The event is BYOB, so pack up a cooler and head out for a day on the Green.

Wine and Beer Festival

Serving as a benefit for the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, the seventh annual Wine and Beer Festival promises a good time for a cause. With live entertainment provided by Ann Caldwell, a silent auction, Hege's Lowcountry Buffet, and wine and beer, this casual event will help the nonprofit continue to provide medical care to uninsured adults living at or below the poverty level on Johns, Wadmalaw and James islands.

Deluge 1.0

This is guaranteed to be an event like no other. Combining elements of a flash mob with water, music and dance, Deluge 1.0 is a “spontaneous happening” that asks participants ages 18 and up to arm themselves with their favorite super soaker and warrior paint for a large scale water battle. To be held in a location that hasn't been revealed yet, this is a no-alcohol event that will be supervised by the Charleston Police Department “to keep things safe and fun.” It's advised that small children and dogs should stay home. To add to the festive atmosphere, food vendors will be on-hand while a DJ will be playing a summer soundtrack.

Wine Stroll

After a hiatus from the heat (and rain) of July and August, Middleton Place's weekly Wine Stroll returns. Sip on old and new world wine vintages as you stroll through one of the numerous garden locations at the National Historic Landmark, home to “America's oldest landscaped gardens.”
