Dog Day Afternoon

Sunday is going to the dogs. After closing to humans for the season, the water park at Wannamaker County Park will open its doors to dogs and their owners for a day of fun. With the Big Kahuna wave pool, the Rollin’ River lazy river and the Otter Bay kiddie pool, there’s a place for dogs of all ages and sizes. The fifth annual event requires all dogs to be up-to-date on their vaccinations and encourages owners to keep dogs close at hand and in control at all times. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. And don’t forget your towel!

When: Noon-5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark, 8888 University Blvd., North Charleston

Price: Owners get in free; admission is $10 per dog, $8 per dog for Charleston County residents

Taste of the Town Festival



Food fans will get their fill of reasonably priced samples at the family-friendly Taste of the Town Festival. In addition to food and beverages, attendees will enjoy the Heart and Stroke Survivor Parade, arts and craft vendors, live entertainment, jump castles, a water slide (bring your towel), games, a kids corner and more. Those who attend are asked to leave pets and coolers at home.

When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday

Abbey Road LIVE!



Fans of the Fab Four are in for a treat as this Athens, Ga.-based Beatles tribute band will be performing the “Abbey Road” album live from start to finish. In addition to hearing the Beatles’ final studio recording in its entirety, a second set from Abbey Road LIVE! will include songs that span the Beatles’ 14 album-career. While the tunes are dedicated to the Beatles, don’t expect to see a group of mop-tops sporting phony British accents.

When: Saturday, doors open at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 9 p.m.

Fort Sumter Tour & Dinner Cruise



“At 1 a.m. Sept. 9, 1863, 500 U.S. sailors and marines made a valiant and heroic assault against Fort Sumter. In 20 minutes of fierce combat, the assault was defeated by the fort’s Confederate garrison.” Learn all about the events on this special dinner cruise that will feature National Park Service Historian Rick Hatcher giving background on the events of the day, a living history program while at Fort Sumter and a three-course southern-style dinner. A cash bar will be available onboard. A limited number of tickets are available.

Charleston Gun and Knife Show



Swap, buy, sell or browse the hundreds of tables of shooting and hunting gear that will be on hand at the Charleston Gun and Knife Show. Running throughout the weekend, the event offers patrons a chance to peruse 300 tables of guns, knives, ammo, surplus, reloading supplies and shooting accessories from some of South Carolina’s biggest dealers.

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday
