LOS ANGELES — “Frozen” could ice out the competition at the Annie Awards.
The Walt Disney Animation Studios film about a magically icy princess and her sister is among the best animated feature nominees at the 41st annual awards honoring the best in animation.
“Frozen” is up against Pixar’s “Monsters University,” DreamWorks’ “The Croods,” Universal’s “Despicable Me 2,” the French-language film “Ernest & Celestine,” as well as the Japanese-language films “A Letter to Momo” and “The Wind Rises.”
“Akira” filmmaker Katsuhiro Otomo, producer-director Steven Spielberg and visual effects mastermind Phil Tippett will be honored at the Feb. 1 ceremony for their career contributions to the art of animation with the Winsor McCay Award.
The Annies are presented by the International Animated Film Society.
