Whether you're a resident of the Charleston area or just visiting, there's always something to keep you entertained in our fair city.

From major festivals and events to smaller monthly events that are always reliably entertaining, there's never a lack of things to do. Actually, more often than not, there are too many things to choose from on any given weekend.

And this weekend proves no different, particularly when it comes to the category of monthly events.

Third Thursday

For those unfamiliar, Summerville DREAM (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) holds a monthly event called Third Thursday, which highlights downtown Summerville businesses, restaurants, musicians and such.

For February's Third Thursday, DREAM is hosting an Elvis-themed event, complete with a visit from the King of Rock 'n' Roll himself.

Grab your blue suede shoes and rock your best pompadour as attendees are asked to dress the part for a night of fun on Short Central, Hutchinson Square and the surrounding area. From 5-8 p.m., Elvis will be performing on Short Central while shops will be offering discounts, deals and free items to those decked out in Elvis attire or who sing Elvis songs.

The Hummingbird Bakery will provide a free mini "Elvis cupcake" for those in their Elvis best while Homegrown Brewhouse will give 10 percent off to Elvis-attired patrons. Simple to Sublime will offer 25 percent off a single item for Elvis impersonators, Four Green Fields will offer 10 percent off if people come in Elvis costume or sing a whole verse of "Love Me Tender" and more.

Third Thursday takes place rain or shine. For more information, go to www.summervilledream.org, call 821-7260 or email info@summerville dream.org.

Taste of the Market

A newer event on the monthly scene is a joint effort between City Market Hospitality Association and Charleston Culinary Tours called Taste of the Market, which takes place the third Thursday of every month.

From 5:30-8 p.m., the restaurants and stores on Market Street will be offering samples of food as well as hosting live music, gift card raffles and beer sales. Participating restaurants include Lowcountry Bistro, Noisy Oyster, Mad River, A.W. Shucks, Wild Wing Cafe, Tabbuli, Charleston Crab House, Sweet CeCe's Frozen Yogurt and Treats, Henry's, Burwell's Stone Fire Grill, Tommy Condon's, The Peanut Shop, Leaf and Molly Darcy's.

Tickets are $10, with children 10 and under getting in for free. Ticketholders will receive happy hour pricing from the participating restaurants for the rest of the evening, as well as discounts from the stores on Market Street. Shop and Stroll

On Friday, enjoy some local shopping at the monthly Shop and Stroll event in downtown Charleston from 5-8 p.m., an event that highlights a number of great businesses in the Upper King Street area.

And while the event encompasses numerous shops, complete with complimentary wine, hors d'oeuvres, live music and more, one place you'll want to stop in is Art Mecca of Charleston, as they will be featuring works by expert photographer Chris Smith.

Attendees will be able to check out the incredible wildlife photos shot by Smith as they enjoy live music by Joshua Gale, sip on wine and nibble on hors d'oeuvres.

Shop and Stroll is a free event. For more info on Upper King, call 303-1113 or go to www.littleworksofheart.typepad.com/upperkingcharleston. For more on Art Mecca, 427 King St., call 577-0607 or go to www.artmeccaofcharleston.com.
