Paws at the Point
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, along with the Charleston Animal Society, is hosting Paws at the Point, a special event to raise awareness for the efforts of CAS. Dogs and their owners are invited to meet adoptable dogs, learn about various service dog organizations and local canine businesses, and tour the aircraft carrier Yorktown. The inaugural event will also include Patriots Point's mascot Scrappy, The Citadel Bulldogs mascots and more. Sticky Fingers will be on-site for lunch. All dogs must be on nonretractable leashes. Proceeds and donations will benefit Charleston Animal Society's Toby's Fund, which contributes to the medical needs of their ill, injured and abused animals.

2014 Miss & Miss Teen South Carolina International Pageant
While the Charleston Music Hall is a beautiful venue already, the place will get quite a bit prettier when the 2014 Miss & Miss Teen South Carolina International Pageant is held there this weekend. With preliminaries on Friday and finals on Saturday, 12 Miss contestants and 11 Miss Teen contestants will compete for their respective titles, with the winners advancing to the International Pageant in Jacksonville, Fla., on Aug. 2. This weekend, contestants will compete in four categories: interview, fitness wear, fashion runway and evening gown.
When: Friday, doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Record Store Day
In celebration of the seventh annual Record Store Day, Monster Music in West Ashley and Cat's Music in Summerville will be opening early and conducting day-long celebrations with food, prizes, live music and storewide sales. This year, more than 450 limited, exclusive vinyl releases will be available at participating independent record stores, including Flaming Lips, Drive-By Truckers, Notorious B.I.G., Devo, Green Day, Neil Young, Nirvana and Nick Cave, among others. Live music will be performed at both locations. Music at Monster Music will begin at noon and will include Jordan Igoe, Dead 27s, Dunder Chiefs, Guilt Ridden Troubadour, Tyler Boone and Logan Venderlic. Music at Cat's Music will begin at 1 p.m. and will include Mt. Vulture, Cepheus, Nimblefox, Lizard on the Window and Senam Palmer. Additional events will be held at both locations.

Colleton County Rice Festival
The three-day Colleton County Rice Festival has expanded to a fun-filled week of family activities. The annual event features everything from fireworks to music to live entertainment. Central to the festival is an arts and crafts area with a wide array of handcrafted items. The queen of the Rice Festival will be crowned in a special pageant and will then ride in the Rice Festival Parade. A 5K run, rated one of the top races in South Carolina, is another signature event for the festival. Additional events and entertainment includes rides, games, a dog show, food, a lumberjack show, Animals That Educate and more. Live music performances will include a show by David Cooler, a two-time winner of the Country Male Vocalist of the Year at the Carolina Music Awards, and the East Coast Party Band.

Charleston RECESS Pool Party
Mixson Bath & Racquet Club will be opening its doors this weekend to kick off the spring and summer pool party season. Saturday starts the five-event series of exclusive disco brunch parties. Festivities will start off with a gourmet brunch buffet and happy hour drink specials, followed by the chance to listen to music from Rob Garza; take a dip in the heated saltwater pool; enjoy a swimsuit fashion show by Las Olas; take part in the bocce, badminton and cornhole tournaments; and more. Attendees must be 21 or older.

'Million Dollar Quartet'
The Tony Award-winning musical "Million Dollar Quartet" is making its Lowcountry premier this week at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. Set on Dec. 4, 1956, the musical is based on the true story where a twist of fate brought together Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley. The four gathered at the Sun Records storefront studio in Memphis for the first and only time on that date, resulting in what became known as "one of the greatest rock 'n' roll jam sessions in history." Attendees of the show will be struggling to not sing along to hits such as "Blue Suede Shoes," "Ring of Fire," "That's All Right," "Sixteen Tons," "Great Balls of Fire" and "Hound Dog."
