Acro yoga and slacklining will wed this weekend in Charleston with a workshop conducted by a couple on quite an adventure.
"YogaSlackers" Sam Salwei and Raquel Hernandez-Cruz decided to take their Peace Love Car, aka PLC, on a 30,000-plus mile tour of North America after a mechanic declared that the 1988 Ford Festiva had only a year to live.
"To gracefully say goodbye and detach from the car, Raquel and I will drive to 49 U.S. States (teach at all 50!) and nine Canadian provinces," Salwei wrote in a post before embarking on the 2014 adventure.
Their ultimate goal: to teach at least one class in their repertoire that is part fitness, part performance, from acro yoga and slackline yoga to conditioning for slacklining. Since their journey started in January, they have traveled 9,955 miles, averaging 87 miles a day and teaching 573 students in 16 states (as well as running the Grand Canyon, rim-to-rim and back).
This weekend is the Palmetto State's turn for the "PLC: End of the Road Tour," and it includes a long list of workshops:
Friday includes Intro to Acro Yoga ($25) 7-9 p.m.
Saturday's classes include Slackline Yoga ($30) 10-11:30 a.m.; Conditioning for Slackers (free) 11:30-11:45 a.m.; and Acro Yoga Fundamentals ($50) 2-6 p.m.
Sunday finishes off with Slackline Yoga: The Next Level ($30) 10-11:30 a.m.; Conditioning for Slacklining (free) 11:30-11:45 a.m.; and Funtastic Acroyoga ($50) 2-6 p.m.
For those wanting to take all the classes, the fee is $150. The classes are held in a private home.

Run for Pet Helpers
The sixth annual Leslie McCravy Memorial 5K Run/Walk to benefit Pet Helpers will be at 8 a.m. Saturday on Folly Beach. A one-mile fun run and dog jog will be at 8:30 a.m.
The event is named for Leslie Leigh McCravy, a young woman who had a passion for animals; she fell victim to domestic violence on July 15, 2007. In Leslie's honor, her friends and family approached Pet Helpers in 2008 with the idea of coordinating a 5K run/walk to raise funds for the organization.
Since then, the event has raised more than $70,000 to help homeless animals across the Lowcountry.
All race participants will receive a T-shirt, race packet and complimentary refreshments. Runners, walkers and supporters are invited to enjoy live music from MOZO and post-race festivities, hosted by Rita's Seaside Grille.
Late registration for the 5K is $30 for adults and $20 for children. For the 1-mile dog jog, it's $25 for adults and $15 for children.
11th Mom's Run
This weekend is all about mom, right? So fittingly, a couple of events for the athletically oriented have mom themes.
Postpartum Support Charleston is hosting the 11th annual Mom's Run 5K run and walk at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The event is followed by Family Fun Day with music, free food and plenty of children's activities, including a jump castle, face painting, crafts and games.
Late registration is $30; $35 for stroller registration (includes child T-shirt); $20 for children 10 and under.
Race the Landing
The Race the Landing 5K series resumes at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site Thursday, with kids races starting at 6:15 p.m. and the adult 5K at 7 p.m.
Other dates for the Thursday evening series are June 5 and 12 and July 10. The fee for the adult 5K is $30-$35. For kids, it's $10-$12 per race.
The fees include food, beverages, awards, live music, commemorative gifts and door prizes. The event raises money for The Friends of Charles Town Landing, a nonprofit whose mission is to support the programming of the site.
Beat the Heat
Fleet Feet Sports in Mount Pleasant is starting a new summer training program called "Beat the Heat," which will run at 6 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks. The first session starts on Tuesday. The fee is $60.
Unlike other programs geared for a specific race distance, this program is one is based on interval speed work and a "bootcamp-style circuit training," according to communications director Katie Hurst.
"It should be fun because participants can earn points for everything they show up for (training sessions, group runs, pub runs) and then at the end of the program, we'll crown an overall male and female winner," says Hurst.
