Robert Jefferson Walker V and his wife, Wendy Walker, converted their sushi and tapas spot into an homage to Walker's great-grandfather, also a Robert Jefferson Walker, and his debonair mustache. The pub pays tribute to their English, Irish and Scottish heritage in decor, dish and drink.

And this year they have declared My Father's Moustache as the "East Cooper World Cup Headquarters" with ambitious plans for 25 days of football. From June 12-July 13, they will be serving a $5 Golden Goal menu, match drink specials and Bud Light pints (no surprise there as Budweiser is an official World Cup sponsor). There will be contests and prizes for the MVP - Most Valuable Patron - and the attendee at the most number of World Cup matches will earn the Royal Treatment during the final round with recliner seating, a personal server and bar credit.

My Father's Mustache is on a mission to be the fan brotherhood of soccer. It is home to Charsenal, the official Charleston support group of the team Arsenal. It is here where the "Lowcountry gooners" gather to cheer on their team Arsenal. Come in your team kit (that's uniform on this side of the pond) and proudly brandish your scarf.

It is here that Falvey's Army rallies to cheer, wince, commiserate and celebrate Charleston Battery and Colin Falvey.

And fans of Man U, Everton, Liverpool and Chelsea will find kindred spirits in both meanings of the word here. The possible exception: Tottenham Hotspur fans who may want to think twice before entering gooner turf.

And although My Father's Moustache manifests itself as a pub, it feels like an adult rumpus room tricked out with steel-tip darts, classic shuffleboard, billiard tables, arcade games and TouchTunes, the jukebox reimagined for the 21st century. Run out of money? No problem, there is an ATM. Need change for the game? They have bill changers, as well.

If you hanker for chip butty, quaking pud, potted shrimp or Heinz beans on toast, you are out of luck. But the kitchen does offer Guinness-braised short ribs, shepherd's pie, potpie, and fish and chips. Guinness and sharp cheddar are lava to the mac and cheese and Scotland gets a nod with Scottish smoked salmon pasta. There is no Walker's or Tayto chips, but the kitchen fries up burnished potato chips that can be doused in cheese, scallions and bacon.

No carving trolley makes the rounds, but Friday and Saturdays the chef roasts prime rib with all the fixins'. Which made me think that the prime rib sandwich would be a worthy handheld. However, no slab of beef adorns their crusty roll but rather thinly chipped beef shavings topped with the rendered sweetness of caramelized onions and pungent cheddar sauce. Not quite the roasted beef sandwich I envisioned, but a tasty beef and cheese nonetheless.

The bangers (sausage) are served as a sandwich or platter and are cooked to a moist finish with a sweet mantle of onion gravy.

The midfielders of the menu are definitely the sandwiches with a significant number of burger variations including Kobe, bison and house-ground "steak burgers" combining filet, rib eye and prime rib. The star, though, is the Colorado lamb burger crusted with char, topped with cooling tzatziki sauce, straddled with lemon aioli and garnished with a juicy tomato and lettuce fringe. They nailed every element beginning with Colorado lamb.

And for those who are in search of Thanksgiving in the off season, the pub plates a T.E.D. - Thanksgiving Every Day - with roasted turkey, dressing, gravy and cranberry mayonnaise.

Grilled cheese and planked eggplant are the meat-free sandwich choices.

A small green salad was graciously substituted for French fries and this simple snap of mixed greens layered tender lettuces, cucumber slices and feta curds in a well-emulsified balsamic dressing.

The kitchen faltered with frying. Fish and chips glistened with grease and the batter quickly released from the fresh cod loins. The house-made tartar sauce, bright with lemon and grassy with dill, continued to demonstrate the kitchen's strength with sauces and dressings.

The menu will satisfy on the snack side where the formation of fried, baked, salty and spicy is a 4-2-3-1 sound defense for the taps and bottles of N B Ranger IPA, the Curious Traveler, and St. Peters Golden Ale, Cream Stout and Old Style Porters.

My Father's Mustache has the potential to ratchet up the volume so if your dining plans veer toward the contemplative, this is not your spot. Part sports bar, football pub and game room, expect a highly energized environment.

The space is continually being tweaked with a watercolor of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill being displaced recently by a flat-screen TV and the outdoor patio continuing its concrete march down Ben Sawyer Boulevard.

The Walkers could not have picked a better year to launch a soccer gaming bar. It's the World Cup, it's futbol and there is only one hour time difference between Brazil and us. As Spanish-language sportscaster Andres Cantor says, "Gooooaalll!"
