This time of year is ideal for spending some extra time outside. You can hit the beach during the sultry afternoons and enjoy a variety of events in the evenings when it cools down. And Charleston is the perfect place to do all of the above.
Shaggin' on the Cooper
An annual summer staple put on by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Department, Shaggin' on the Cooper is back in action on Saturday.
The dance series at the Mount Pleasant Pier off Harry Hallman Jr. Boulevard will feature live music by Shem Creek Boogie. Food and beverages will be available on-site for purchase. The event runs 7-11 p.m.
Tickets are $10 or $8 for Charleston County residents, and it's recommended that advance purchases are made as tickets are limited.

Thursday Night Boogie
While the Shaggin' on the Cooper series has been a long-standing event, the folks over at the Mount Pleasant Pier still know how to shake things up.
Introducing a new event in their popular summer dance series, the kick-off to Thursday Night Boogie will be Thursday.
A counterpart to the Shaggin' on the Cooper series, which is open to all ages, Thursday Night Boogie is intended for ages 21 and up and will be held the Thursday prior to each Shaggin' event. The event will begin at 6 p.m.
DJ Jim Bowers will be spinning a variety of oldies, beach music classics, and line dancing hits. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Admission is $10, with Charleston County residents able to purchase advance tickets for $8. All attendees must be at least 21 years of age to gain entry and a photo ID is required.

Party at the Point
Billed as Charleston's "premier happy hour concert series," the long-running annual summer concert series Party at the Point continues its 14th season Friday.
Held at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, 20 Patriots Point Road in Mount Pleasant, gates open at 5:30 p.m. with bands playing from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5-$7. Free on-street parking is available, as is valet parking for $5. The event features $2 drafts while they last as well as a variety of food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and fish tacos.
This week's concert will feature Five Way Friday and Scarletta, a group recognized by Billboard Magazine as one of the Top 10 Country Artists to watch in 2013.

Music on the Green
Another concert event taking place Friday, this one at Freshfields Village, is the annual Music on the Green concert series.
From 6-9 p.m., enjoy live music by the Chris Crosby Group, a group that performs everything from acoustic and jazz to country and beach.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket.

Party in the Park
After kicking off its month-long series earlier this week, Party in the Park returns Tuesday with another show.
Presented by the town of Mount Pleasant, WEZL 103.5 FM and Colonial Life, the series features a free show every week in the month of June following the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.
An official after-party will be held each Tuesday at Red's Ice House on Shem Creek.
This week's concert will feature Jana Kramer and Charlie Worsham. Music will start at 6 p.m. at the rain-or-shine event. In addition to the tunes, Party in the Park will feature food and beer vendors.
Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted, but organizers ask that dogs, coolers, umbrellas and tents be left at home.
