Average White Band
Widely regarded as one of the "best soul and funk bands in the history of music," Average White Band had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. Best known for their instrumental mega-hit "Pick Up the Pieces," the band's strength lies in their accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold-selling albums and multiple Grammy nominations. Hitting the 40-year mark in 2012, the sextet with Scottish roots has influenced artists such as the Beastie Boys, TLC, Ice Cube and Nas.
