Raise De Roof
Raise De Roof is a gospel music festival and gumbo cooking competition to celebrate the works of Operation Home. The organization's mission is to help people stay in their homes by increasing safety and accessibility through the coordination of critical home repairs for low-income residents of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties. The benefit event will feature local gospel choir performances starting at 4 p.m. and a gumbo contest at 6 p.m. that will see local chefs and amateur cooks offer their food for judging. If gumbos isn't your thing, there will be a Sunday church picnic dinner available on Doby's Deck from 5-7 p.m. that will include Southern pan-fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, fresh fruit, brownies and sweet tea. The general concessions at the Joe will also be open for burgers, hot dogs and more.
When: 4-8 p.m. Sunday; gates open at 3 p.m.
Where: Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park, 360 Fishburne St.
