In a few weeks, the Gibbes Museum of Art will begin shutting down for its upcoming renovation, with the permanent collection set to be removed from the walls Aug. 17.
In the meantime, art lovers are invited to come by the museum and take a picture of themselves next to their favorite work of art and post the picture online with #myfavGibbesArt for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Renovation Kick-Off Celebration on Sept. 27. Of course, participants are asked to refrain from flash photography as that is damaging to the artwork.
The Gibbes Museum is at 135 Meeting St. in downtown Charleston.

Crystal Eadie Miller at the Real Estate Studio
From now through Aug. 26, the abstract paintings of Crystal Eadie Miller will be on display at the Real Estate Studio in downtown Charleston.
Miller is a decorative painter who has the skills to transform any space with her strong use of color, blending and intuition.
For more than 15 years with her company, Newlook Finishes, she has been focused on walls and ceilings and has created amazing ambiances with her techniques. This self-taught artist is now taking her expertise to the canvas and is excited to share this new level of artistry.
"I have been trained to do finishes that sell, so I look at canvas artworks the same way. People will invest in what they love and what they are drawn to," says Miller.
She is often inspired by sunrises and sunsets, and the flavor of those is apparent in many of her works.
Save the date for her artist's reception in a couple of weeks, from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Real Estate Studio, 214 King St. If you can't wait, her work is already on display.
For more, call the Real Estate Studio at 722-5618 or go to www.dunesproperties.com.
