The rumors started on Facebook, Twitter and message boards last month, sparking passionate and heated discussions among music fans.

The topic? Famed jam band Phish coming to the North Charleston Coliseum.

Well, the rumors turned out to be true: Trey Anastasio and company will be playing the North Charleston Coliseum Oct. 15 and 16.

For those who don't know, Phish is one of the biggest bands in the world. With 15 studio albums and an astonishing 75 live concert CDs, it's no wonder why fans travel the world to see them play. Their concerts are major social events, tickets sell out in record time and their reputation as a live act is unmatched by most modern bands.

In other words, this is a big deal.

Another reason Phish makes headlines is because the band treats its fans very well. Ticket buyers of Phish's fall tour will receive free MP3 copies of each gig, via livephish.com, which currently has nearly 200 full concerts available for download.

Tickets for the October shows will be hard to come by. An online ticket request period is underway at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com/ and will end noon Sept. 3.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Sept. 10 and 11. For more information, visit phish.com.

Phish's fall tour will also see the band playing in Texas, Colorado, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

Stay tuned to Charleston Scene on Facebook, Twitter and our web site for more coverage.

For more information, call the coliseum at 529-5000.
