"Guest Chef" series at Ocean Room returns

The fourth of The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort's "Guest Chef" dinner series will take place Sept. 7 and will feature three Charleston area chefs: Nico Romo of Fish, Jacques Larson of The Wild Olive and Jimi Hatt of Guerrilla Cuisine.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception in The Ocean Room lounge featuring cocktails created with Ketel One vodka followed by dinner at 7 p.m. in The Ocean Room.

All chefs will be on hand to explain each dish and greet guests. The cost is $69, not including taxes and gratuity. For more information, call 768-6253

Granville is coming back

Look for Granville Cafe, 730 Rutledge Ave., to re-open this month. Owner Trae Wilson has partnered up with Chad Murdock, most recently of Trattoria Lucca to open Granville's as a casual restaurant serving dinner 6 nights a week. Bocci's new chef

John O'Brien, formally of Garibaldi's has taken over top kitchen duties at Bocci's.

The restaurant has launched a new wine menu. And to kick off these changes, Bocci's will host a free wine tasting. The restaurant and Danni Baird, from Ben Arnold Wine Distributors, will be sampling wine 5-7 p.m. Sept. 9 to kick off the new menu.

Sample four Italian wines from Italy and California.

Wine bar

Chef Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca will open a wine bar called Enoteca, wine bar in Italian, at 18 Percy St., near his restaurant.

Wine, beer and cheese: the latter supplied by Manoli Davani of Avondale Wine and Cheese. An early September opening is planned with hours being 4:30-11 p.m.

Sundays at Hall's

Come for the gospel brunch and stay for the bar menu, which will now follow brunch after 2 p.m.

The nicely priced bar menu will be available on Sunday's until the dinner menu service starts.

Liberty lunch

Liberty Tap Room and Grill at 1028 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. is now serving lunch daily beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Woodlands Inn

Woodlands Inn, in conjunction with Palmetto Brewery, will host an outdoor BBQ & Brew dinner Sept. 8. Cost is $49, not including tax and gratuity.

The three-course, four-beer dinner event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Woodlands' herb garden, and features appetizers, beer samplings and live musical entertainment.

Dinner is at the Inn's Grand Oaks courtyard with an interactive kitchen and community tables. Each course will be paired with a selection from Palmetto Brewery.

Woodlands' culinary team and Palmetto representatives will introduce each course and explain how and why it was paired with the beer.

Broken ground

The utility stakes are in the ground and the earth is moving on the future home of Basil's Thai Restaurant in Mount Pleasant at The Shoppes at Seaside.

Concrete also is being up-ended at the future home of Juanita Greenberg's Nacho Royale on Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant.

Every Tuesday, the Tattooed Moose will feature "Good Beer Tuesday's" where all craft beer is $1 off.

The first bash will be Sept. 14 with Dogfish Head Brewery.

Game day

The Lowcountry Buckeyes, the Charleston area chapter of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, announced that the official game-watch location for all area fans of Ohio State football is The Three Lions pub at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island.

The Lowcountry Buckeyes, a nonprofit, will use the 13 regular season games and bowl game gatherings to raise funds for scholarship programs.

The first event for the Lowcountry Buckeyes will be 7:30 p.m. tonight at The Three Lions when Marshall and Ohio State kick off opening night for college football.

Brickhouse hours

The Brickhouse, at 1575 Folly Road, James Island has expanded hours of service.

Lunch is served 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday; dinner is 5-9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Extended weekend hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday featuring brunch 10 a.m-3 p.m. and tapas 3-7 p.m.

Sermet's expands

Sermet Aslan, chef/owner of Sermet's Corner downtown, is opening up his second restaurant in the location of the former Brewers Bistro on Daniel Island.

The new property will be named Sermet's Courtyard and will feature light jazz and a family atmosphere.

The partner in this venture is Dana Vosburgh, a Daniel Island resident.

Plans are to open on Sept. 10. Sermet's Courtyard will be open seven days serving lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. It will be at 115 River Landing Drive.
