'Going Ga Ga'

Deborah Sisco creates rich, abstract oil paintings that incorporate inks, oil bars and sometimes musical instruments.

"By the time I am well into the painting, brushes become too confining and I end up using rags, paper towels and fingers to get the color exactly where I want it and to get just the right effect," Sisco said.

Join her today for her first solo showing in Charleston, "When the Music Plays," 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Flagship Gallery at the Digital Corridor, 475-A East Bay St. Listening stations will allow viewers to experience the music that influenced each piece.

Friday night, Sisco will be featured at "A Show of Strength" at the Real Estate Studio (214 King St.) to benefit the Hollings Cancer Center. The collaborative art sale also will bring together new and well-known artists in Charleston. A $20 donation is suggested.

Best mistake I ever made: All of them, because they became valuable lessons.

I love to: Watch the dolphins play; I never get tired of it.

I'm daydreaming about: Becoming a well-known artist sometime in my lifetime.

My inspiration comes from: Nature, other artists, architecture, but mostly music.

I am most grateful for: My husband, Richard, because he keeps me grounded and continues to encourage me.

Herbivore or carnivore?: Herbivore.

If I could ask the president one thing, it would be: What's the real plan?

Television is: Too negative, too violent and too promiscuous. Children shouldn't be allowed to watch it.

My family says I am: Caring but goofy; it's not uncommon to see me dancing around the house with or without music.

Price range of artwork: $150-$5,000.

What the world needs is: To protect our natural resources for future generations.

Meet me at: The Thoroughbred Lounge in Charleston Place hotel.
